[A Collage of Lavenham]

Lavenham Parish Council's Millennium Website

My father was stationed at Lavenham after surviving the attack on Pearl Harbor and completing 2 tours of duty in the Pacific theater (50 combat missions, the Memphis Belle crew did 25.) He was in the midst of his 3rd tour in the 487th when his plane (a B-17) was hit by flak and seen to go down with no parachutes observed. Being the radio operator near the center of the plane when it broke up in mid-air, he clipped the rest of his 'chute to the harness in freefall, already having sustained a broken back, wrist and 2 ribs. He was the sole survivor of his crew of 10. Taken POW by the Germans, he was repatriated 2 months later weighing only 95 pounds at 6' in height! His name was Harvey Frederick Schlotte and I would welcome any information about his experiences at Lavenham that anyone could provide. I am one of his three sons living in the United States. Please e-mail me if you have any information. Thanks.
